Redlands Mens & Womens Cross Country Teams Take Third at SCIAC Championships
The University of Redlands cross country teams competed in the
2007 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
(SCIAC) Championships at La Mirada Park on Saturday, with both
teams taking third overall. Combined with the results of the SCIAC
Multi-Duals on October 13, the Bulldog women’s team finishes
in a tie for second while the men earn a tie for third. This marks
the best finish for the men’s team since 1998, when the
Bulldogs also came in third.
Leading the Redlands men, senior Chris Smith (Fremont, CA) came in
fifth with a time of 27:08.92. Senior Raul Sevilla (Downey, CA)
posted his best race of the year with his 15th-place time of
27:47.42, while freshman Jeremy Kalmus (New Orleans, LA) finished
just behind him at 27:49.72. The Bulldogs’ fourth runner was
senior Rey Ramirez (Carlsbad, CA), who came in 26th overall with a
time of 28:13.78. Sophomore Jake Baechle (Aurora, OH) rounded out
the scoring for Redlands with his time of 28:27.53 for 29th
place.
For the women, the Bulldogs gained solid results from junior Avery
Kelly (Fort Worth, TX), who came in fifth with a time of 23:11.53.
A pair of freshmen runners in Katie Ostrinski (Riverside, CA) and
Pilar Page (Las Vegas, NV) finished 10th and 11th with times of
23:41.63 and 23:46.95, respectively. Sophomore Stephanie Mera
(Redlands, CA) completed the 6K race in 24:16.87 for 20th place
while freshman Heather Mayer (Spring Valley, CA) tallied a time of
24:32.01 for 23rd.
Members of the Redlands cross country teams next compete in the
NCAA Regional on November 10 in Portland, OR.
