Redlands Cross Country Competes at NCAA West Regional
On Saturday, the Bulldog men’s and women’s cross
country teams competed in the NCAA West Regional at Lewis &
Clark College (OR), finishing eighth as a team in the men’s
race and 10th in the women’s race.
Leading the men, senior Chris Smith (Fremont, CA) came in 20th
overall with a time of 25:59.65 on the 8K course. Due to his high
finish, he also qualified for the NCAA Championships on November 17
in Northfield, MN.
Senior Raul Sevilla (Downey, CA) took 38th by completing the course
in 26:47.05 while freshman Jeremy Kalmus (New Orleans, LA) came in
just six seconds later at 26:53.35 for 43rd. Senior Rey Ramirez
(Carlsbad, CA) posted a time of 27:02.55 while sophomore Jake
Baechle (Aurora, OH) came in at 27:34.35. Rounding out the Bulldog
harriers, freshman Alec Fillmore (Riverside, CA) earned a time of
28:40.90.
The men’s race was won by Willamette University while
conference foe Occidental College took second overall.
On the women’s side, junior Avery Kelly (Ft. Worth, TX) paced
the Bulldogs with her time of 23:06.25 on the 6K course to finish
24th overall. Freshman Katie Ostrinski (Riverside, CA) finished at
23:46.00 for 42nd in her inaugural regional meet. Sophomore
Stephanie Mera (Redlands, CA) came in just three seconds later at
23:49.20 for 45th place while freshman Heather Mayer (Spring
Valley, CA) completed the race in 23:57.30 for 52nd. Rounding out
the team’s results, freshman Pilar Page (Las Vegas, NV) and
sophomore Onesa Bowman (Pomona, CA) came in at 24:39.70 and
24:46.50, respectively.
Willamette’s women also won the regional with the University
of Puget Sound finishing second.
