Bulldog Cross Country Gains Experience at CSU Fullerton Season Opener

The University of Redlands men’s and women’s cross
country teams can file their first meet of the season under their
belts as the squads took to the course in the Cal State Fullerton
Season Opener in Fullerton on Saturday.
Teams in attendance ranged from top-notch NCAA Division I programs
to community college contingents.
Senior Stephanie Mera (Redlands, CA) paced the women in the 6K with
a 180th-place time of 27:48.80 while her teammate, senior Kelly
Luck (Boulder, CO), followed suit with a 27:56.40 mark. In
addition, junior Katie Ostrinski (Riverside, CA) and freshman
Madison Smith (Redlands, CA) crossed the finish line 189th and
190th with respective standards of 28:14.00 and 28:14.80.
On the men’s side, junior Jeremy Kalmus (New Orleans, LA)
registered the team’s fastest mark, finishing 144th in the 8K
with a time of 29:29.80. Junior Alec Fillmore (Riverside, CA)
covered the course in 29:51.00 while sophomore Duncan Ashby
(Goleta, CA) clocked a 30:16.10.
The Bulldogs host their annual Redlands Invitational on Saturday.
Meet time is set for 9 a.m. for the women and 9:45 a.m. for the
men. The course runs through the university’s quad and Sylvan
Park.
