Bulldogs Compete in Redlands Cross Country Invitational

The Bulldogs hosted the 2009 Redlands Cross Country Invitational
today at the University of Redlands with a multi-terrain course
that covered the quad in front of Memorial Chapel as well as nearby
Sylvan Park. The field of competitors included various schools from
the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)
as well as NAIA opponents, junior colleges, and independent clubs
from the area.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges captured both team titles while the
Redlands women finished third and the Bulldog men took fifth
place.
Individually, the women’s 4500m race was won by freshman
Phoebe Merritt from Occidental College while sophomore Eric
Kleinsasser, also from Occidental, took home medalist honors in the
men’s 6K race.
For the Bulldogs, junior Katie Ostrinski (Riverside, CA) paced the
women with her time of 18:30 for 17th place, which was followed by
senior Stephanie Mera (Redlands, CA) at 18:31 in 18th place. Ten
seconds later, freshman Madison Smith (Redlands, CA) crossed the
finish line for 21st place while junior Heather Mayer (Spring
Valley, CA) posted a time of 18:42 for 22nd place. Rounding out the
Redlands scorers, senior Kelly Luck (Boulder, CO) came in 27th
overall with her time of 18:52.
The men looked to senior Jake Baechle (Aurora, OH) to lead the team
with his 22nd-place time of 20:16. Junior Jeremy Kalmus (New
Orleans, LA) quickly followed at 20:18 for 23rd place. Sophomore
Duncan Ashby (Goleta, CA) posted a time of 20:45 for 36th overall
and junior Alec Fillmore (Riverside, CA) came in at 20:59 for 47th.
Freshman Tom Marshall (Hillsboro, OR) added his time of 22:16 to
round out the top five Redlands finishers.

Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Oct. 3 at 7:30 a.m.
