Redlands Cross Country Resumes Competition with West Region Preview Meet

The University of Redlands women’s and men’s cross
country teams placed sixth and fifth, respectively, at the West
Region Preview Meet in Claremont on Saturday.
Redlands, along with 11 additional programs, tested out the course
that will be used for the NCAA West Region Championships with the
women running the 6K and the men competing in the 8K.
Senior Kelly Luck (Boulder, CO) paced the Bulldog women with a
24:28.00, placing 20th. Finishing right behind her was junior Katie
Ostrinski (Riverside, CA), who covered the course in 24:29.67 for
21st.
Three additional female harriers donning the Maroon and Gray also
placed among the top 50. Senior Stephanie Mera (Redlands, CA)
crossed the finish line 24th (24:39.86), freshman Madison Smith
(Redlands, CA) posted the 28th-fastest standard (24:47.57) and
junior Heather Mayer (Spring Valley, CA) clocked a 25:29.14 to rank
43rd overall.
On the men’s side, junior Jeremy Kalmus (New Orleans, LA)
kept up with the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic
Conference (SCIAC) elite, turning in a swift mark of 26:46.50 for
15th. Sophomore Duncan Ashby (Goleta, CA) plowed through the course
in 27:09.07, taking 23rd, while senior Jake Baechle (Aurora, OH)
registered a 37th-place 27:42.46.
Redlands returns to action on Oct. 17 when it faces off against the
other seven conference schools in the SCIAC Multi-Duals. The meet
is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. in La Mirada.
