Redlands Cross Country Teams Open SCIAC Competition at Multi-Duals

The University of Redlands women’s and men’s cross
country teams compiled records of 3-4 and 4-3, respectively, at the
Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC)
Multi-Duals on Saturday morning in La Mirada.
Redlands’ women’s cross country team notched wins over
Cal Lutheran University, Caltech and the University of La Verne
while falling to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, Occidental
College, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Whittier College.
Junior Katie Ostrinski (Riverside, CA) paced the Bulldog women in
the 6K, taking 17th with a season-best time of 24:03.77. In
addition, senior Kelly Luck (Boulder, CO) placed 29th with a
24:45.10, freshman Madison Smith (Redlands, CA) finished 30th with
a mark of 24:47.22, senior Stephanie Mera (Redlands, CA) came in
35th (25:09.11) and junior Heather Mayer (Spring Valley, CA)
clocked a 36th-place 25:10.24 to round out the team’s
representation among the top 40.
The men boasted a winning record at the meet, besting Cal Lutheran,
Caltech, La Verne and Whittier.
Junior Jeremy Kalmus (New Orleans, LA) covered the 8K men’s
course in 28:10.03, which proved good enough for 17th overall.
Following closely behind, sophomore Duncan Ashby (Goleta, CA)
registered a 19th-place standard of 28:23.33. Senior Jake Baechle
(Aurora, OH) rounded out the Maroon and Gray’s top
performances with a 25th-place 28:35.63.
Both teams take another week off from competition before meeting up
with the seven conference squads again at the SCIAC Championships
in Prado Park. The meet is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Oct. 31.
