Redlands Runners Earn Mixed Results at SCIAC Multi-Duals

The University of Redlands cross country program battled it out with fellow Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) schools at the annual Multi-Dual meet, which took place on Friday in La Mirada.  The Bulldog men posted a 3-5 record with wins over Cal Lutheran University, Caltech and Chapman University.  The Maroon and Gary women came away with a 2-6 mark, besting Caltech and Chapman.

A pair of rookies in Jarron Helbock (San Diego, CA and Hunter Holthaus (San Diego, CA) led the men on the 8K-course with their sub-28-minute marks of 27:50.36 and 27:57.66, respectively.

Sophomore Chris Bolt (Reno, NV), freshman Jonathon DeGroot (San Leandro, CA) and senior Tom Marshall (Hillsboro, OR) followed within 60 seconds to round out the top five harriers.  Bolt registered a time of 28:23.08 and DeGroot crossed the line in 28:43.76.  Marshall finished out his third 8K-race of the season by posting a time of 28:53.00, which was more than 50 seconds faster than his effort from two weeks ago.

For the women, the steadfast showings of sophomore Della Lyle (Buffalo, WY) continued, as she came in 21st overall and first for the Bulldogs.  She completed the 6K-race in 23:02.59, which was a slight improvement of her time at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Sept. 29.

Less than a minute later, senior Madison Smith (Redlands, CA) crossed the finished line with a time of 23:56.87 as Redlands' No. 2 harrier.

Freshman Lauren Roberts (Redlands, CA) shaved off nearly 30 seconds from her last outing two weeks ago, posting a mark of 24:05.61.  Junior Ellie Aguilera (Lemoore, CA) recorded the team's fourth-fastest time at 25:58.60, while freshman Jessie Talbert (Santa Fe, NM) and senior Carla Griego (Albuquerque, NM) rounded out the sub-28-minute performers at 27:18.98 and 27:38.57, respectively.

Redlands now prepares for the SCIAC Championships, which take place on Oct. 27 at 8:30 a.m.  The final race of the regular season covers the grounds at Prado Park in Chino.
