Matt Durkin joined the coaching staff at the University of Redlands in July of 2008 as the cross country graduate assistant coach. In addition to working with the Bulldog harriers, Durkin serves as an assistant coach for the Redlands track & field team. He also attends the School of Education in pursuit of his Master of Arts in Higher Education.

Prior to his arrival at Redlands, Durkin and two of his friends completed a trans-continental run that stretched from Tybee Island, GA, to San Diego, CA. The run took 118 days, and Durkin traveled an estimated 2,788 miles while averaging 24.03 miles per day.

Durkin graduated from the State University of New York-Oneonta in 2007 with a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications and a minor in Sports Management. A four-year member of the Red Dragon cross country team, he garnered MVP honors during his senior season. In addition, he competed on the track & field team throughout his undergraduate career and ran for current Redlands Head Coach Mike Schmidt, who joined the Bulldog staff in the fall of 2007 following a four-year career at Oneonta. Durkin capped off his career with an All-Conference nod in the Steeplechase in 2007.

Hailing from Rensselaer, NY, Durkin strives to become a head coach at the college level. In his spare time, he enjoys running and video editing. He currently resides in Redlands.
