It was announced earlier today that Assistant Women's Volleyball Coach Jackie Macy of the University of Redlands has been named one of 12 recipients of the 2017 Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship, which helps pay for registration and hotel costs for first-time attendees at the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Convention.
Macy, who is pursuing her Master of Arts in Learning & Teaching Multiple Subjects, is in her second year as a graduate assistant coach at Redlands. A setter from Colgate University (NY), she works primarily with the Bulldog setters and helps develop the team's offensive system. In addition, she coaches for Pursuit Volleyball Club, which focuses on growing the game for low-income players.
"Volleyball is what I love to do and be a part of, and being able to continually be involved in this sport as my competitive playing years are now over is one of the greatest blessings," she said.
In order to be eligible for the C4C Scholarship, applicants must be active AVCA members who are attending their first AVCA Convention. Now in its ninth year, a selection committee reviews the applications and makes their decisions based on academics, contributions to the sport of volleyball on and off the court, a professional letter of recommendation, and a personal written submission outlining their desire to attend the AVCA Annual Convention and their aspirations in coaching.
"We are thrilled that Jackie has been selected for the Coaches 4 Coaches Scholarship to attend the convention this year. Jackie will make great use of this opportunity, diving into the coaching curriculum and networking with other volleyball coaches across the country," commented Head Coach Lisa Lindberg. "I'm excited to be able to attend this event with Jackie and to have her experience this incredible professional development experience."
